Weekend trip | Wedding in the Adirondack mountains & Montreal

Last weekend we went on our last trip together as a family. Matt’s nephew got married. We had to drive all the way out to Plattsburgh which is in the northern of New York State. It’s the last corner of the Adirondack mountains and located right next to Lake Champlain which is one of the biggest lakes in the area. The drive there took us almost 6 hours (not including any breaks). It is crazy if I consider that I am almost able to reach every single spot in Germany within 6 hours and I did not even leave the STATE! We had to leave Hamlin early in the morning, it was around 6 AM. We got there at like 12 PM, checked into the hotel, got ready for the wedding and eventually went to the wedding.

The wedding was on the beach. Actually an awesome place for a wedding if it wouldn’t have been so cold. It was like 13Β°C and windy while it was about 30Β° C back home in Hamlin. It could not have been much worse, especially at this time of the year. Fortunately the ceremony was very short. Only about 5 minutes. Perfect to escape that frigid temperatures. After the actual wedding was over we had a big meal and some nice cupcakes. We already went back to the Hotel early in the evening.

Unluckily the weather kind of ruined the wedding. The most people left pretty early.
After resting for a few minutes we played some Minigolf at the hotel.

Later in the evening some there was another event going on. I tried to go to bed as early as possible because I wanted to get ready for the trip to Montreal that was upcoming on the following day. I did not get that much sleep the night before anyway because it was our last day of school so it was hard to go to bed early.
In the next morning we got up pretty early. It was sometime between 7 and 8 I think. After we had some breakfast I said goodbye to all that people that I am probably not going to see anymore before I leave the States. The drive to Montreal was not very long. Plattsburgh and Montreal are both pretty close to the boarder. Crossing the boarder wasn’t a very big deal either fortunately. After about an hour we arrived in Montreal. We tried to explore the city by walking. Our first destination was the big famous Cathedral Notre Dam.

After this we walked through the harbor area and all those old streets that Montreal is famous for.

After a small break at Starbucks we drove over to the Mount Royal Park. I am not quite sure but it’s one of the biggest parks of Montreal. It definitely was a nice place to go to.

Our destination was the chalet. From up there we had a terrific view over the whole city. It was pretty awesome.

Only the weather could have been a little better. It was pretty cold, but at least it did not rain after we left the car in the morning. The good thing, the bad weather and a Formula one race which was in Montreal as well, apparently kept a lot of people away from the city and all the sights. After we came back from our hour long walk we had to leave already. Yes you did not misunderstand anything. Hour long… There were not that many signs which made it tough to find everything. As you might now Montreal belongs to the province Quebec which means it is a french spoken area. Of course a lot of people spoke English as well but all the signs were in french which was kind of annoying because none of us knew any french.
We had an awesome day in Montreal even though the weather kind of sucked. I feel like I have been pretty unlucky with the weather on a lot of trips in general, but I hope that it is going to change for my upcoming trips. What I really liked about the city was that the city looks very green. There are trees everywhere.
